Sufis Are From The Enemies Of Allah

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Graceful,

Oh Allah, send peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet and Messenger Muhammad, as well as upon his purified Household. May Your damnation be upon all of their enemies, for they are Yours too.

Introduction

Tasawwuf, Sufiyya or Sufism is a well known and influential interpretation of Islam. Is not a unified community, but rather a number of sects that have in common an esoteric, mystic and/or ascetic approach. Most Sufi tariqas come from ‘Sunnism’ (Naqshabandi, Tijani, etc), however there are some that inherited from Shia Islam (Bektashi, Ni’matullahi, etc).
Sufism has also played an important role in the concept of Irfan, or “Islamic mysticism”, introduced by some Shi’i scholars.

Our Imams (peace be upon them) have severely condemned Sufis, may Allah’s curse be upon them, and the proof is shown in the following article.

Ahadith against the Sufiyya

It has been narrated in the book Hadiqat Al-Shi’a, from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abi Nasr Al-Bazanti and from Muhammad Ibn Isma’il Ibn Bazi’ from Al-Rida (peace be upon him), who said: “He who remembers the Suffiya and has not denied them with the tongue or with the heart, is not from us. And whoever denies them is as if he has fought the infidels with the hands of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).[1]

Narrated from the authentic [chain] from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abi Nasr Al-Bazanti from Al-Rida (peace be upon him), who said: A man from the companions of Ja’far Ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq (peace be upon them both) said: “a people referred as the Sufiyya have appeared during this time, what do you say about them?” He said: “they are our enemies, and whoever is inclined towards them, is from them, and will be gathered with them, and they will be peoples that claim our love, inclining towards them, imitating them, giving titles to themselves, verily whoever is inclined towards them is not from us. And I am innocent from them, and whoever denies them and answers to them, is as he who fought the infidels with the hands of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).[2][3][4]

It was narrated by Sheikh Al-Mufid in his book Kitab Al-Radd ‘Ala Ashab Al-Hallaj, from Abi Al-Qasim Ja’far Ibn Muhammad Ibn Qulawiyeh from his father, from Sa’ad Ibn ‘Abd Allah from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn ‘Isa from Al-Hussain Ibn Sa’id, who said: I asked Aba Al-Hasan (peace be upon him) about the Sufiyya, and he said: “no one says Tasawwuf except for a trick, misguidance, or foolishness, and it may be that one of them has used them”. [5]

In the book Hadiqat Al-Shi’a, the previous hadith has been narrated with the same chain, in the exact same way, adding the following:

As for the one who calls himself a Sufi due to Taqiyyah, there is no sin on him, and his sign is that he suffices with the name and does not say anything of their beliefs.” [6]

And what has been narrated from Ali ibn Al-Hussain Ibn Babawayh Qummi about the chain of transmission compiled under the authority of Sa’ad Ibn ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad Ibn ‘Abd Al-Jabbar from Al-Askari (peace be upon him), who said: Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about the status of Abi Hashim Al-Kufi, and he said: “verily, he is very corrupt in belief and he is the one that created a doctrine called Tasawwuf [i.e. Sufism] and made it the dwelling of his evil belief”.[7]

It has been narrated from our Sheikh Baha’ Al-Din Al-‘Amili that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: “The Hour will not come upon my nation until a people from my nation named “Sufiyya”, who are not from me, come out. And they are the Jews of my nation who shave for remembrance and raise their voices with remembrance thinking that they are on the path of the righteous. And they raise their voices with remembrance thinking that they are on the path of the righteous, in fact they are more astray than the disbelievers. And they are the people of Hell, for they are a sniffle like a donkey's sniffle, and their saying is the saying of the righteous [i.e. sounds correct], and their work is the work of the ungodly. They are disputing scientists that have no faith, and they admire their work, they have nothing for them but a burden from their work.” [8]

Conclusion

Sufism and the ideas inherited from it are purely heretical and the deviation from the Straight Path has been clearly stated by our Purified Imams (peace be upon them all). May Allah free us from deviation.

Peace and blessings be upon all of you,

Abu Haider
