Rising Up In The Abscense Of An Imam
Oh Allah, send peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet and Messenger Muhammad, as well as upon his purified Household. May Your damnation be upon all of their enemies, for they are Yours too.
Introduction
In relatively recent times we have seen a growing tendency where some Shias have claimed that the government can be held by our own scholars during the Major Age of Occultation. This is not only an innovation but it is forbidden according to our narrations, some of which will be presented here.
Evidence from the Ahadith
Muhammad Ibn Al-Hassan al-Tatri has narrated from those he has mentioned in his book: from Ali Ibn Al-Nu’man from Suwayd al-Qalansi from Bashir al-Dahhan who has said the following: “I once said to Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him): ‘I saw a dream in which I said to you, ‘fighting alongside one who is not an Imam, obedience to whom is obligatory, is unlawful just like consuming dead animals, blood and pork for food.’ You said to me in my dream, ‘That is how it is’’”. Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) then said, ‘That is how it is, that is how it is’”.

Muhammad Ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad from Abul-Hassan (peace be upon him) who has said the following: “It was mentioned before the Imam that a certain man loves to have leadership. The Imam said, ‘two fierce wolves in a flock of sheep, whose shepherd is far away, are not more harmful to the flock than seeking leadership to a Muslim’s religion is.’”
Al-Kafi volume 2
It is narrated from him (narrator of the Hadith preceding this one) from Ahmad ibn Sa’id ibn Janah from his brother, Abu ‘Amir, from a man from Abu Abdillah (peace be upon him) who said: “whoever seeks leadership is destroyed.”
Al-Kafi, vol. 2
A number of people hace narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muskan who had said the following: “I heard Abu ‘Abd Allah saying, ‘Beware of these leaders who pretend to be leaders. I swear by Allah, shoes [people] have never marched behind a man, but he destroys (them) and (he) is destroyed”.
Al-Kafi, vol. 2.
It is narrated by him (the narrator of the Hadith preceding this one) from Muhammad ibn Isma’il ibn Bazi’ who has said: “Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon them) has said, ‘condemned is one who seeks leadership, condemned is one who intends to become a leader and condemned is one who speaks to himself of leadership.’”
Al-Kafi, vol. 2.
Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Ayyub from abu ‘Aqilah al-Sayrafi who has said that Karram narrated to us from abu Hamza al-Thumali who has said the following: “Once Abu ‘Abd Allah (a.s.) said to me, ‘Beware of leadership and beware of marching behind men (following them).’ I (the narrator) asked, ‘May Allah keep my soul in service for your cause, I understand what leadership is. However, as far as walking behind men is concerned, I must acknowledge that two thirds of what I know are but from my walking behind and following men.’ The Imam said to me, ‘That is not the way you think. Beware of supporting a man who does not have any (Divine) Authority but you acknowledge whatever he has said.’”

Sermon of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) about the usurpers
Our Mawla Ali (peace be upon him) forbade his sons of to rebel before [the time of] the Mahdi and about those who rebel:
Abu Sahl said from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Ghalib, from Hadiya Ibn Abd al-Wahhab from Abd al-Hameed from Abd Allah Ibn Abd al-Aziz, who said:
Ali Ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) said to me and pronounced [this] sermon in Kufa: “O people, stick to the earth after me [i.e. be headstrong], and beware of the deviant from the family of Muhammad, for a deviant will emerge from the family of Muhammad, and they do not see that which like because of their disobedience to my command and their abandonment of my covenant, and a banner will emerge from the sons of Al-Hussein, which will appear in Kufa with an illiterate support, and people will be covered by affliction. Some of them and this will take a long time until God releases them with a man from the family of Muhammad, may God bless him and his family. From the Tigris of Basra, not from me, and he is the forefront of all imposters”.
